While grades are important, universities also offer many scholarships based on financial need, community involvement and school leadership. Make sure you perform several searches to find all of the scholarships available to you.

If you are not enrolled in an Ontario secondary school: Many universities offer scholarships specifically to students applying from outside Ontario and from outside Canada. These scholarships are not listed on eINFO - please contact the universities directly for further information.

Daniel Dengler Memorial Award 1

Up to $4,000

This award will be granted annually to a full-time first year student enrolled in the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program at Laurier who presents a minimum admission average of "A" (minimum 85%). The recipient will have undertaken volunteer work or have been involved in extracurricular activities for the betterment of the community. The successful recipient must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident (landed immigrant) or protected person; long-term resident of Ontario; with proven financial need (applications will be evaluated primarily for financial need as opposed to academic standing.)

Erich R.W. Schultz Entrance Award 1

Up to $1000

Granted annually to a student who is entering year one of the full-time Honours Music program who plays a keyboard or stringed instrument. First consideration will be given to applicants who play organ, followed by those who play the cello, and finally by all other keyboard or stringed instruments. An eligible applicant must present a minimum final admission average of 80% (A-), demonstrate financial need, be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident (landed immigrant) or protected person, and a long term resident of Ontario. The award will be granted to the eligible applicant who is judged by the Faculty of Music to show the most promise on their instrument of choice, based on their admission audition.

Established by Erich R.W. Schultz to encourage and support outstanding Laurier music students and, in particular, those studying keyboard and string instruments.

Glenn & Isabelle Rittinger Bursary Fund 1

Up to $650

Full-time undergraduate students entering year one from the Avon Maitland School District; minimum "B+" average (77-79%) in best six 4U/M courses. Preference will be given to students enrolled in the Honours BBA program; Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

James Ingoldsby Memorial Bursary Fund 1

Up to $900

Full-time undergraduate students in year one who attended a Catholic secondary school in Waterloo Region; participation in athletic activities; proven financial need. If no recipients from the Separate Board are eligible, consideration will be given to students from the Public Board within Waterloo Region.

Laurier Association of Lifelong Learning 1

$500

Part time undergraduate students who are 30 years old or greater at the time of admission; no previous postsecondary degree or diploma; registered in a minimum of 1.0 credit; Canadian citizen; permanent resident (landed immigrant) or protected person; long-term resident of Ontario; proven financial need; applicants will be judged on a statement of their educational plans and goals.

Martin Business Administration Award of Distinction 1

$5,000

Full-time undergraduate students coming to Laurier directly from secondary school who are entering year one of the Honours Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program or related double-degree programs (who have identified Laurier as their host university); must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or bearer of a valid student visa; present a minimum entrance scholarship average of 90% or equivalent; and demonstrate active and significant involvement in extracurricular activities.

Megan Keenan-Tyler Schmidt Memorial Award 1

Up to $2,000

Eligible applicants will be graduates of Waterloo Oxford District Secondary School (WODSS) who can demonstrate financial need. In the absence of eligible applicants from WODSS, applicants from other secondary schools in the Waterloo Region District School Board will be considered. Preference will be given to applicants who are entering the Kinesiology and Physical Education program (full time, year one) at Wilfrid Laurier University. Applicants must show significant involvement in extracurricular activities (participation in a varsity sport will be given preference) and must provide solid leadership experiences. The recipient must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident (landed immigrant), or protected person; long-term resident of Ontario; proven financial need.

Full-time undergraduate student entering their first year of an Honours Music program. Preference will be given to eligible applicants from the Waterloo Region. The recipient must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident (landed immigrant), or protected person, and a long-term resident of Ontario.

Quo Vadis Scholarship 1

$1,000

Granted to a full-time student from the Ontario public secondary school system entering year one at Wilfrid Laurier University. The successful recipient must have a minimum final average of 80%. Granting of this award will also be based on demonstrated leadership qualities (e.g., participation in school or community activities, including athletic involvement). Applicants will be required to submit a 500-word essay describing their involvement and where they want to go when they graduate (what their future goals are).

The Dr. John Weir Economics Award of Distinction 1

$5,000

Granted to an outstanding full-time undergraduate student, entering year one of the Honours Economics Program directly from secondary school, who demonstrates high academic achievement in addition to substantial high quality involvement in student activities, creative endeavours or community service. This scholarship is renewable in second year providing the recipient continues full-time registration in year two of the Honours Economics program, achieves a minimum cumulative GPA of 10.0 (A-) and continues to be involved in student activities, creative endeavours and community service.

Full-time undergraduate students entering first year in the School of Business and Economics; granted to the two students presenting the highest and second-highest averages in best six 4U/M courses (or equivalent).

President's Centennial Scholarship Unlimited

$23,000 ($3,000 first year; renewable based on academic performance for up to four* years at $5,000 per year) *fourth year of renewal eligibility for approved five-year undergraduate programs only)

Full-time undergraduate students entering first year; Canadian citizens, permanent residents or bearers of a valid student visa (visa applicants must have completed their senior year at a Canadian secondary school); successful completion of Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent; minimum overall average of 95% in best six 4U/M courses (or equivalent). The university reserves the right to modify the minimum grade requirement for this scholarship.
