Language Requirements

You will be required to provide proof of English proficiency if English is not your first language and you have studied less than 4 years in an English language school (minimum high school level).

If you are required to provide proof of English proficiency, 1 of the following tests with scores as indicated below will be accepted.

Successfully completing the University of Guelph's Open Learning and Education Support advanced level of the English Language Certificate Program is also considered an acceptable form of testing for English proficiency.

Offers of Admission for Ontario High School Students

Basic Requirements for Admission

Admission average: You will be considered for admission with an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (or equivalent) and an admission average calculated using your top six 4U/M courses (or equivalent), including subject requirements. The estimated cut-off admission range for all 7 programs is 75–80%.

Estimated cut-off admission ranges: Based on the admission averages from previous years and provided solely as a point of reference. Exact cut-offs for the current cycle will be determined by the quantity and quality of applications received and the number of places available in the respective program. Admission to the University of Guelph-Humber can be competitive. Possession of an admission average within the estimated cut-off range does not guarantee an offer of admission.

Student Profile: The Student Profile (SP) is your opportunity to tell us about factors that may have impacted your grades. If your admission average does not meet the cut-off for the program you applied to, your SP may be considered if your average is within a discretionary range of the determined cut-off range (up to 5%). If you have an admission average of 70–74.9%, it is strongly recommended that you submit a SP to be considered for admission. Profiles must be completed on our website and are due May 1, 2019.

Supplementary Information Form for Students with Disabilities (SIF-D): The University of Guelph-Humber strives to provide equal opportunity for academically qualified students with disabilities. If you apply to more than 1 program at the University of Guelph-Humber, you can expect to receive only 1 offer of admission from the University. The highest ranked choice will be considered first. Only in the event that you are not admissible to your highest choice will your next choice be considered in May. If you wish to change the order of your program rankings, please amend your application on the OUAC by April 15, 2019.

Failed and Repeated Courses

The University of Guelph-Humber will use the highest grade reported from a Ministry-approved institution for any repeated courses.

Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate

Advanced Placement exam results of 4 or more may qualify for university credit to a maximum of 2 credits (4 courses). Official transcripts are required.

If you are applying with an IB diploma, you should present a minimum academic score of 24. Reported bonus points will be taken into consideration. You should complete the diploma with 6 subjects: 3 higher level and 3 standard level. You should also include the specific subject requirements for the program you are applying to among your higher and standard levels. Please note that Math Studies is an acceptable prerequisite for programs that require math. You should ensure that your predicted scores are submitted using the 7-point scale. Once we have received your official final IB transcript, we will assign transfer credit.

Ontario high school students registered in an IB program will automatically have their IB courses converted into Ontario U- and M-level equivalents. IB scores will be converted into percentage grades by your high school. You are eligible to receive a maximum of 2.0 credits for grades of 5 or better on higher level courses. Admission and scholarships will be determined using the conversions as submitted.

Timing and Process for Admission Decisions

Timing of offers (January to end of May) and the grades considered for each round of offers is described below.

January to February

Top 6 completed 4U/M (or equivalent courses), including subject requirements. If 6 completed 4U/M courses are not available, completed 3U/M courses, including subject requirements, will be used.

March to April

Top 6 completed 4U/M (or equivalent) courses, including subject requirements. Where not available, a combination of the top 6 completed or in progress 4U/M and completed 3U/M courses, including subject requirements, will be used.

May

Top 6 completed or in-progress 4U/M courses, including subject requirements, will be used.

The University of Guelph-Humber does not provide alternative offers of admission.
