If you qualify, you may ask the university to exempt you from the English-language proficiency requirements. A 4U English is required.
LEAF - Laurier English and Academic Foundation
BRANTFORD CAMPUS
The LEAF program allows academically qualified students who do not meet our English proficiency requirements the opportunity to receive a conditional offer of admission pending completion of the 5-level program.
HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK?
In each calendar year there are two 14-week regular cycles and two 8-week intensive summer cycles. The regular cycles are longer because they’re aligned with the undergraduate terms, giving you the opportunity to interact with both domestic and international students during the busiest times of the year. If you have received a conditional offer of admission to Laurier, you will be required to complete a course for credit during Level 5 of the LEAF program. This will help you get a head start on your progress towards a degree, while also completing your LEAF program requirements.
WHAT LEVEL WILL I START IN?
Check the table below to determine your starting level of the LEAF program.
IELTS Score | LEAF Level |
6.0 | 5 |
5.5 | 4 |
5.0 | 3 |
If you don’t have an English proficiency test score, you will be given a placement test to determine which of the 5 levels is best suited for you. Our courses focus on academic English and they are designed to prepare you for success in university.
WILL I GET A CONDITIONAL OFFER OF ADMISSION?
Conditional offers of admission to undergraduate studies at Laurier will be awarded for September 2017 entry to academically qualified students. This means that a conditional offer of admission to Laurier can be awarded at the same time as an offer of admission is made to LEAF .
To successfully complete the LEAF program, students will need to achieve a minimum grade of 70% in each LEAF course, a minimum of 50% in the course for credit, and a minimum overall average of 70% in Level 5.

Admission
Offers of Admission for Ontario High School Students
Multiple Offers of Admission
New for 2017: We will now issue up to 3 offers of admission per student. This means that you will receive a decision on each of your Laurier applications. You will be sent information in January/February about how to submit additional information to support your application for admission.
Basic Requirements for Admission
To calculate your admission average, we consider your top six 4U/M level courses.
All 4U prerequisite courses are calculated in your admission average, regardless of whether or not they are part of your top 6 courses, for the following programs:
- Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)
- BBA double-degree programs
- Faculty of Science programs
- Bachelor of Arts and Science (BASc) in Public Health
- Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Geography
The 2 exceptions for the Faculty of Science programs are the Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Psychology and Bachelor of Kinesiology (BKin) programs, which do not include the required math course when calculating the admission average.
For all other programs, we will look at your top 6 marks, regardless of whether or not your prerequisites are included in that average.
4U English must be at a minimum of 60% for all programs unless otherwise specified. You must also meet program-specific requirements. All required courses must be at a minimum of 60% unless otherwise specified.
Failed and Repeated Courses
If you repeat a course, the highest grade will be used in calculating your average with no penalty. Courses taken at night school/summer school are considered equivalent to regular daytime courses.
Timing and Process for Admission Decisions
We are continuously sending out offers of admission from the time the applications open on OUAC in December, until the deadline to accept your offer in early June. Offers are sent out in what we call “phases,” with each phase based on different academic criteria. All offers of admission are conditional until your final grades are received by our office in July.
Phase 1: Early Offers of Admission
- This phase takes place during December and January.
- Admissions during this phase are based on your best five 3U/M courses.
- We must also be able to see from your application that you are enrolled in all 4U prerequisite courses for admission.
Phase 2: Second Round of Offers
- This phase takes place during February and March.
- Admissions during this phase are based on your best six 3U/M and 4U/M courses. You must have a minimum of three 4U/M courses calculated as part of that best 6.
Phase 3: Final Round of Offers
- This phase takes place during April and May.
- Admissions during this phase are based on your best six 4U/M courses.
- Your best 6 can/will include prerequisite courses (for some programs) and your second semester midterm grades if you are still completing your Grade 12 year.
- During this final phase, if you are not successful in gaining an offer of admission to a program that you’ve applied to, we will automatically consider you for an alternate offer of admission.
Note: If you do not receive an offer of admission during phase 1 or 2 of the admission process, it will not negatively impact your application in any way. The reason you would have not received a decision on your application in these first 2 phases is either because insufficient grade information is available to us, or because you haven’t met the prerequisite requirements we required during that phase. We will continue to consider your application during each phase as we receive new grade information until the end of May.
For more information and updates, visit our Undergraduate Admission Toolkit.
Alternative Offers
Normally, if you do not receive an offer of admission to the program you applied to, you will automatically be considered for admission to an alternative program, if space permits. See more about our alternate offers of admission on our website.
Residence
Residence applications are completed online. You will receive details and deadlines in Laurier's First-Year Student Welcome Book that will be mailed to you with your first offer of admission. Residence is guaranteed to students coming into university for the first time and whose application form and deposit are received by the posted deadline. Find more information about residence.
