Admission
Offers of Admission for Ontario High School Students
Basic Requirements for Admission
Ontario high school students who apply for admission to first year at Laurentian University must present an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), and at least six 4U/M courses (as specified in each program listing) with the minimum grade requirements. Prerequisites may vary for each program.
Failed and Repeated Courses
For repeated courses, Laurentian will take the best of the two marks.
To be admitted to Laurentian, you must apply online to the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre at: www.ouac.on.ca.
Timing and Process for Admission Decisions
If you attend a semestered school, you may receive an early conditional offer of admission if:
- you completed Grade 11 courses with an overall average that is equal to or higher than the program average requirement (see below for details).
- you are enrolled in a sufficient number of courses to ensure you will complete at least six Grade 12 4U/M courses by the end of June and qualify to obtain the OSSD.
If you do not receive an early conditional offer of admission, you will be considered on an individual and ongoing basis, as additional grades are made available.
All high school applicants must successfully complete six Grade 12 4U/M courses and receive the OSSD; failure to do so may result in withdrawal of the offer of admission.
If you receive an offer of admission, you must reply by June 1, 2015.
IB Policy
The International Baccalaureate (IB) is acceptable for admission to Laurentian University provided you achieve a minimum score of 28 and fulfill the diploma requirements with six subjects: three at higher level and three at subsidiary level. Transfer credits may be granted for higher-level courses with grades of five (5) or better. You must submit your IB transcripts to be evaluated.
AP Policy
If you completed Advanced Placement (AP) courses in appropriate subjects with a grade of four (4) or more, you may receive transfer credits equivalent to a maximum of two courses (12 credits). You must also meet the regular university admission requirements since AP courses are not accepted in lieu of these.
