Language Requirements

The minimum number of years required to waive English proficiency requirements is three years of full-time (non ESL), successful studies in an English-instructional education system, with acceptable grades in English and other humanities/social science courses from the senior high school year. If you qualify, you may ask the university to exempt you from the English-language proficiency requirements.

The Laurier English and Academic Foundation (LEAF) is geared towards students who are academically qualified for admission, but do not meet Laurier's English proficiency requirements. Upon successfully completing the program, you will receive a conditional offer to Laurier and will not be required to present TOEFL or IELTS scores.

Basic Requirements for Admission

We calculate admission averages by taking the average of the top six 4U/M courses (or equivalent). All other required courses must be at a minimum of 60%, unless otherwise specified. Many programs also require a special minimum average for science courses; this average is calculated based on the prerequisite math and science courses for each program. For admission to Science programs, BBA, or business-related double degree programs, prerequisite courses are included in the admission average.

Failed and Repeated Courses; Night Courses

If you repeat a course, the highest grade will be used in calculating your average without penalty. Courses taken at night school/summer school are considered equivalent to regular daytime courses.

Timing and Process for Admission Decisions

We will begin to send out offers of admission to the highest qualified applicants in January, continuing through May. Early conditional offers of admission are subject to attaining specific prerequisite course requirement(s), completing Ontario Secondary School Diploma requirements, and meeting a specific minimum final average. The admission average is based on the best six 4U/M courses (or equivalent).

One Offer of Admission

We can issue only one offer of admission per student. Please list your program choice(s) in order of preference. We will send you information in January/February about how to submit additional information to support your application for admission.

Alternative Offers

If you do not receive an admission offer for the program you applied to, you will be considered for admission to another program, if space permits. See our list of Alternative Offer steps.

Residence

A residence application can be found at: http://wlu.ca/residence. Residence is guaranteed to first-year high school students whose application form and deposit are received by the posted deadline.
