Language Requirements
If English is not your first language, you must demonstrate that you can cope with the language demands of an English-language university.
If you apply to an undergraduate program at Lakehead University, you may meet our English language requirements if you successfully completed, or are in the process of completing, 3 full years of recent study in an English-language school system.
If English is not your native language, and you cannot verify that you recently studied in an English-language school system for more than 3 full years of full-time study, you will be required to present proof of English-language proficiency.
Lakehead University accepts the following as proof of English-language proficiency:
- successful completion of a recognized language test (i.e., TOEFL, IELTS, CAEL or MELAB) with the required minimum scores
- successful completion of Lakehead University’s Academic English Program
- successful completion of one of our approved Pathway Partner’s ESL programs
See more details about our English-language requirements.
Note: Some academic units may require a higher score; meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to Lakehead University. Grade 12 University English (ENG4U) cannot be used to satisfy the English-language proficiency requirement.
