2018–2019 Fees: Thunder Bay Campus:

  • Residence Halls: $10,701.80 – $11,454.79 (full meal plan included)
  • Apartments: $7,286.95 (meal plan optional; not included in the cost)
  • Townhouses: $7,261.95 (meal plan optional; not included in the cost)

Orillia Campus:

  • Residence Halls: $12,194.27 – $12,894.37 (full meal plan included)

Room Types

Thunder Bay Campus:

First-year students coming directly from high school are primarily assigned to Residence Hall rooms.

Students may choose from 2 room styles: basic single or single. Furnished rooms include a bed, a desk, desk chair, mini-fridge, phone, Wi-Fi, and cable TV access. Houses are co-ed. All of the Houses are equipped with a furnished TV lounge, study room, male and female washrooms, and a laundry facility. In addition, outdoor bicycle storage shelters are provided. Barrier-free accommodation is available. Alcohol-free and/or quiet areas are available based on student interest.

Note: All Residence facilities are smoke-free. Smoking is permitted only in designated smoking areas on the campus grounds.

Some apartment rooms and townhouse rooms are available to high school students under special circumstances.

Room Types

The Residence features a unique, modern design. You will have your own single room and share a bathroom with 1 other person. Furnished rooms include a double bed, ensuite sink, desk, cable TV access, Wi-Fi and phone.

Each floor houses 40 single rooms, a laundry facility, lounge and quiet study room.

Barrier-free accommodation is available. The Residence Halls are co-ed. Alcohol-free and quiet areas are available based on student interest.

Note: The Residence facility is smoke-free. Smoking is permitted only in designated smoking areas on the campus grounds.

Amenities

Students living in Residence can expect to be included in a vibrant and active community on weekdays and weekends alike, in which Resident Assistants offer exceptional support to students. Residence Life staff organize regular Residence activities and outings such as movie nights, trips to the ski hills, fun competitions between Houses, and opportunities to volunteer.

Residence Guarantee

High school guarantee: All high school students who are admitted to Lakehead University by June 1, 2019, and who complete their online Residence Housing Applicatin/Contract and submit the non-refundable $500 down payment by June 1, 2019, are guaranteed a space in Residence.

Deposit Required

You must submit a $500 down payment along with your residence contract by June 1, 2019, to guarantee a spot in residence.

Meal Plans

A full meal plan is included with the accommodation package. Students have 2 convenient declining balance meal plan options to choose from.

  • Plan A – $4,200.00 – For students not on campus on weekends and those with lighter appetites.

  • Plan B – $4,900.00 – For students on campus most weekends and those with larger appetites.

Please note, there are no refunds on unused declining balance amounts.  Declining balance amounts do not carry over to the next academic year.

With most Residence students travelling more than 700 km to live at the Thunder Bay campus, students living in Residence can expect to be included in a vibrant and active community on weekdays and weekends alike, in which Residence Assistants offer exceptional support to students. Residence Life staff organize regular Residence activities and outings such as movie nights, trips to the ski hills, fun competitions between Houses, and opportunities to volunteer.

Residence offers many other amenities such as late-night snacks at Dan's Diner or Nick's Garage, an outdoor ice rink for hockey or figure skating, tennis courts, a basketball court, and beach volleyball.

Residence Guarantee

Catered by Aramark Canada Ltd, meals in the Residence Cafeteria and Main Cafeteria offer options for every palate. Accommodating those with food sensitivities or allergies, Aramark offers a salad bar, homemade soups, wraps and subs, food from the grill, hot plated meals like home cooked pizza, fruit and dessert options. Vegetarian, vegan, halal, cultural/religious and gluten-free options are available.

The meal plan described below is included in the cost of the Residence Halls accommodations:

  • All day dining in the Residence Dining Hall + $800 declining balance
  • Students are allowed unlimited entry into the Residence Dining Hall during regular hours of operation
  • Declining balance dollars can be used anywhere on campus where food service is operated by Aramark.
