Room Types

Students entering their first year will be placed in one of our first-year communities, listed below. Many of the first-year students reside in our traditional-style residence or our townhomes, and the others live in apartment-style residence. Our first-year communities are placed based on a ranked preference. However, your room style is not guaranteed.

  • Single bedroom in traditional-style residence: Oscar Peterson Hall
  • Single bedroom in townhouse-style residences: McLuhan Court, Leacock Lane, Putnam Place and Schreiberwood
  • Single bedroom in premium townhouse-style residence: MaGrath Valley
  • Double room in premium townhouse-style residence: MaGrath Valley
  • Double room in suite-style residence: Erindale Hall

Amenities

Residence provides you with a furnished bedroom; semi-private bathroom; common lounge space; wireless internet service; and $100 prepaid laundry card.

Our first-year communities:

  • are equipped with rezNET high-speed internet service;
  • have controlled entry for security; and
  • are smoke-free.

To support your transition, your Peer Academic Leader (PAL) and Don live nearby to help answer questions and lead seminars, social events and study sessions. Our first-year communities make it easy to walk to class, review notes and study for exams with your neighbours and roommates!

Residence Guarantee

Residence is guaranteed for all new full-time students entering their first year of university in an undergraduate program for the first time, provided that they meet the conditions listed on the Residence Guarantees page.

Meal Plans

$3,650 – $4,500

First-year students in residence are required to purchase a meal plan.

Residence Orientation

Residence Orientation is your chance to get to know your new home, neighbours and residence community, including the Residence Student Staff who are here to support you throughout the year. Learn what it means to be a successful residence student, meet new people, and, most importantly, have fun! The friends you make during this first week on residence may last you the year, for your entire stay at UTM or even a lifetime.
